Inside the Home of HGTV's Jillian Harris

I first become familiar with Jillian Harris via the addicting HGTV show Love It or List It, but I really fell in love with her aesthetic via her regular posts on instagram and her blog. I was so excited to see a tour of her Kelowna home.  Here's a look:

My Home Tour + Sources

As mentioned in a previous post, earlier this month, Style Me Pretty Living, one of my favorite lifestyle sites, featured a tour of my previous home. Since the feature went up, I've received inquires about the sources of some things, so I thought I'd post a complete list here for anyone else who may also be curious to know. Because the apartment was a rental that we planned to live in for only about 2 years or so and we had other priorities financially, when it came to decorating and furnishing it, we did so on a small budget, splurging only on a few select pieces.  BTW, this post from 2012 shows a few photos of what the place looked like when we first moved in!

FAQ

Q: The base of my Docksta table gets dirty easily from people resting their feet on it, how do you keep yours clean?

A: Magic Erasers

Q: How did you hide the wires and cords of your wall mounted TV in your living room?

Design Spotlight: Nest Design Co.

One of the many things I enjoy about my job, is discovering talented new-to-me interior designers. I thought it'd be fun to spotlight them here on the blog as I'm sure many of you will also enjoy seeing their beautiful work and gain inspiration from it.

This week's spotlight is on Jennifer Wundrow and Heather Brock, founders of their own firm -Nest Design Co. based in Sausalito, California. A selection of lovely spaces they've designed:

Inspired By: Blue Print

While reading the Domaine feature on Cynthia Collins, I learned that aside from being an interior designer, she is also co-owner of Blue Print - a store in Uptown Dallas.  I clicked on over to the store website and immediately fell in love.  They sell handpicked antiques, original artwork, accessories, and high-end furniture, all inside a really charming and architecturally beautiful old home:

They do such a beautiful job with styling:

Hunting for a New Lighting Fixture

The dining room is one of the spaces I've neglected in our home and is in need of a little attention.  It's a small little space that is open to the living room.  Since moving in, all we've done is bring in the clear chairs we had from our previous home, a white tulip table, and white curtains. The owners of the home (we're renters) left their chandelier and we've left it up because, well, it's functional. It's not really our style though and I've been itching to change it out.

I've been keeping an eye out for light fixtures that I like (and aren't ridiculously expensive). Below is a round-up of what I've found so far.  Some of them aren't right for the space but thought they were worth sharing here, for any of you out there who may also be on the hunt for the right light fixture.

1- Five Arm Chandelier, 2- Marmont Pendant, 3- Brass Pendant, 4- Modern Pendant Light, 5- Brass and Glass Globe Pendant

#1 is beautiful but it's probably a bit too fancy for our home. #2 has a fun vibe to it, though I'm not sure if it would emit sufficient light. #3 is a strong contender - I love it's simple elegance. #4 is clean, simple and my husband's favorite. There's also this one, which is similar and I like.  #5 is really cool and I love that it's handmade by a fellow small business owner.  It's also the most budget friendly. Given the current chairs we have though, bringing this in would probably be too many clear elements in the space. Perhaps if I got new chairs... (haha I wish! ...not in the budget right now)

If you happen to come across a light fixture you think I'd like and is reasonably priced, feel free to send it my way. I'm open to options.

Patterned Sofas

While a sofa upholstered in a solid colored fabric is the safest and usually most economical option, for those who can afford it and are feeling adventurous enough, sofas in a fun patterned fabric can make pretty fantastic statement pieces that can do a lot to add beautiful interest in a space:

Mirrored Vanities

If I had a dedicated dressing room, I think I'd like to incorporate a mirrored vanity table. There's something just so glamorous about them wouldn't you agree?

Happy Earth Day

For a happy way to end the week and celebrate Earth Day, I thought I'd post this beautiful bedroom by Tobi Fairly, which most people wouldn't guess is an earth-friendly design. The cheerful tangerine and turquoise color palette really makes the room and dispells the idea that green decor is necessarily dull.

Most of the fabrics used throughout the room are organic cotton, many of the pieces are vintage or recycled, and the paint on the furntiure, accessories and walls are low-VOC. For detailed information on how the room is eco-friendly, click on over to Traditional Home.

Good Morning

Welcome to a brand new week :)
emilyhenderson-office-bluechair
Although, as usual, I have an awaiting to do list, I like taking a few calm moments in the morning to pleasantly ease into to the week...
How about you? Do you have a busy week ahead? How do you like to start off your Mondays?
P.S. Isn't that blue chair fabulous??

High Gloss Magazine!

Aren't you just loving all these online magazines? High Gloss just went live with their first issue today and I'm absolutely loving it! My favorite interior design feature was the Boston bachelorette pad designed by Erin Gates of Elements of Style (love her!). It's pink done right. Unapologetically girly, sophisticated and oh so chic. Contrast piping on the furniture, lucite pieces, patterned pillows, floor to ceiling drapes, the marble countertop and tulip table... I pretty much love everything in here, I don't think I'd change a thing...

Matchbook Magazine!

Have you read it yet? If you haven't heard, it's the newest online lifestyle magazine that just went live last night, created by bloggers Katie Armour and Jane Lilly Warren. I haven't read it all yet (it's more text heavy than other online mags) but so far, I personally am absolutely loving it! It's filled with lots of charm and personality. A few of my favorite shots:
