Get the Look: A Beach Chic Living Room

For this month's Get the Look post I'm featuring this beautiful living room from the Long Island home of Catherine Marron (previously Senior Features Editor at Vogue) designed by Carrier and Company.

This space exudes a sense of casual elegance that is very inviting and reminds me a bit of the set of one of my favorite movies, Something's Gotta Give. Achieve a similar fresh Hamptons beach house look with these pieces:

Get the Look: A Living Room by Laurie McFarland

For this month's Get the Look post I'm featuring a gorgeous living room by Arkansas interior designer Laurie McFarland.

While the flooring, wall color, and main furnishings are all neutral, the room is anything but boring. Vibrant decorative pillows deliver a burst of color and enliven the space.  Large mirrors flanking either side of the sofa make a symmetrical statement while giving the illusion of spatial depth.  Silk draperies and touches of gold add a sense luxury and glamour.

Raiana's Sophisticated Glam Living Room

One of my favorite parts of my job is seeing my pillows in their new homes. I know I have some seriously talented customers.  Canadian interior designer Raiana Schwenker is no exception. She just shared photos of her living room (which she decorated on a budget!) and it's absolutely fabulous.  Take a look:

Arianna Belle Pillows in Adore Home

Have you checked out the latest issue of Adore Home? It's packed with beautiful interiors like the cheerfully colorful home of stylist and decorator Clair Wayman featured on the cover ...

AND, if you flip to page 157 you'll see our Bengal Bazaar pillow featured in the Get the Look page for a home designed by Greg Natale:

So delighted to be included in such a fabulous magazine!

If you haven't yet, grab yourself a cup of coffee or tea and read the issue here.

Irene's Colorful Abode

My friend Irene's beautiful SoCal home was featured on Apartment Therapy this week! If you haven't seen the tour yet, you're gonna love it. I've had the pleasure of stepping foot inside her home and it really is as fun and welcoming as the photos show (possibly even more so!).  This girl sure knows how to effectively bring together multiple colors, textures and patterns. She's one talented lady!

View the full tour here and come back here tomorrow for a How I Organize post featuring Irene!

Julia's Living Room

I love seeing photographs of my customers' decorated spaces.  Julia of Pawleys Island Posh recently added two of our leopard linen pillows while updating her beautiful living room and I think they, along with her other additions, have made such a fun impact. Here's the space before the updates:

and here it is after:

Looks great, don't you think? I love the playful mix of patterns!

Cozy up

A simple little throw blanket can really help make a space feel cozy, which is especially appealing during these colder months.  Of course a burning fireplace doesn't hurt either.

Do you have a throw that's specific for your living/family room or do you tend to bring out regular bedroom blankets whenever you want to cozy up on the sofa to watch a movie or read a book?  Is there one that you love and would recommend (like a super soft or warm one)?

Navy + Orange & Quadrille's Potalla

Thank you everyone for all the birthday wishes! I'll leave you today with this beautiful room by Porter Design Company. I'm in love with those gorgeous navy lacquered walls and the color combo of blue, orange, and turquoise. Love also that it incorporates Quadrille's Potalla fabric. It's such a gorgeous pattern and works so beautifully in the space.

For those of you who may be interested, I just recently added pillows made of that fabric in my shop!

Have a great weekend all!

Two Instead of One

Two small tables are a great alternative to having the usual one large coffee table in the living room. Their size (and weight) makes them portable and versatile, which is perfect for accommodating the functions of a multi-use space.

Sofa Love

If I was in the market for a new sofa, I'd probably look for one like this...

...an amply proportioned sofa with a deep seat, rolled arm, and tight scalloped back. Doesn't it look comfy?

As I mentioned in my Dream Home post, Sofia Coppola's blue one (top two images) is the Jules sofa by George Smith (as is probably some of the other sofas pictured as well). Unfortunately it's quite pricey (I believe around $12K). The Cameron sofa from Room and Board (which can be upholstered in any fabric they have available) is a good option for getting the look for less. I'd probably replace the legs with vintagey ones to get closer to the look.  If you happen to know of any other sources for getting a similar style piece at an affordable price please do share!

Patterned Sofas

While a sofa upholstered in a solid colored fabric is the safest and usually most economical option, for those who can afford it and are feeling adventurous enough, sofas in a fun patterned fabric can make pretty fantastic statement pieces that can do a lot to add beautiful interest in a space:
