A couple of months ago I shared a photo of my new home office on Instagram. Slowly but surely I've made some updates and while it's not quite "finished" yet, I'm happy that it's starting to take shape and no longer looks like an empty box. Here's what it's looking like currently:
While most things were carried over from my old office. I did bring in some new art, pillows, accessories and since this office is a bit smaller, a new rug. Also brought in the black ribbon edged curtains from our old bedroom - I love them in here!
Not sure yet if I want to add something in the corner, next to the Expedit. In the old office, I had bookcases on either side. They are now being used for closet organization.
The main wall is still pretty bare. I used the frames that I used to have in my old office, for a gallery wall around the TV in our new living room (photo of that coming soon), so I need to shop for some new ones. I haven't decided yet though if I want to do a mix or all one color.
Be sure to follow along here or on Instagram for future updates! I'll probably share our living room next.
As mentioned in a previous post, earlier this month, Style Me Pretty Living, one of my favorite lifestyle sites, featured a tour of my previous home. Since the feature went up, I've received inquires about the sources of some things, so I thought I'd post a complete list here for anyone else who may also be curious to know. Because the apartment was a rental that we planned to live in for only about 2 years or so and we had other priorities financially, when it came to decorating and furnishing it, we did so on a small budget, splurging only on a few select pieces. BTW, this post from 2012 shows a few photos of what the place looked like when we first moved in!
floor lamps - Ikea, white duvet cover - Bed Bath and Beyond, embroidered sheet set - BlissLiving Home, pillows - Arianna Belle, silver frames - Target, patterned fabric boxes - Blissliving Home, white shag rug - Rugs USA, benches - Rose Bowl Flea Market, paint colors - Olympic Pounding Surf and Freshwater
FAQ
Q: The base of my Docksta table gets dirty easily from people resting their feet on it, how do you keep yours clean?
A: Magic Erasers!
Q: How did you hide the wires and cords of your wall mounted TV in your living room?
A: We used these cable management covers we found on Amazon. I've also seen similar ones at home improvement stores.

Most of you probably know and love See Jane Work- a favorite go-to place for stylish office supplies. What you might not know, is that they recently added several new products to their collection for Office Depot. As soon as I got a preview of the goodies, I knew I needed to add some of them to my workspace, and was excited when Office Depot offered to send over my picks, just in time for a little new year refresh. Here's a look:

A white pencil cup that coordinates with my desk, to hold pens and highlighters, and a pretty lilac edged sticky pad for writing checklists, shopping lists, and to-do lists.
Matching turquoise binders for keeping various business papers neat and orderly. They fit nicely lined up in the cubes of my Expedit unit.
Clear white dot project envelopes to easily carry fabric samples, etc. with me to meetings with my team.

A white stapler to replace my old one that wasn't working properly anymore. I paired it with the matching white tape dispenser to make a stylish little duo. The tan cup I already had, but is also from the line. Love that it's sturdy enough to hold my heavy gold tailor scissors.
Small updates that are helping create the setting for an organized and productive start to 2014. Are you freshening up your workspace for the new year?

Good morning! Hope you had a wonderful weekend and are having a great start to the new week. As usual, lots of things to tackle on the to-do list. A priority item for me this week is migrating my website over to a different (better!) hosting company. Hopefully the move will go smoothly however some downtime will be inevitable, so if you see that the blog or shop is down later this week, that's the reason. I'll try to post a heads up and progress updates on Facebook and Twitter. Excited to make the move as it's the first step towards making the planned improvements to the site a reality. Also working hard behind the scenes to make, photograph, and do all the data entry work to add lots of new pillows to the shop. Follow me on Instagram for peeks!
Sugar Paper is a high quality paper goods company started by Chelsea Shukov and Jamie Grobecker 10 years ago. Late last year they outgrew their original small space and moved their studio to a large warehouse in West LA. These photos give us a peek inside:

Gorgeous right? As a young entrepreneur I find this so inspring. Perhaps one day I'll get to move my company into a similarly large and beautiful studio :-) Gotta dream big right??
--Another inspiring workspace here.
It's no surprise that a stylish event planning company like Tara Guerard Soiree, who regularly puts together magazine worthy weddings, has equally magazine worthy offices. Check out the photos below of their clean, tailored and bright workspace:
Sets of matching boxes and binders on custom floor to ceiling shelving provide plenty of storage and help maintain a clean uncluttered look.
An bulletin board above Tara's desk serves as a catchall for photos that inspire ideas.
Large windows flood the conference space with natural sunlight
The tall spacious white table in the central workspace provides a perfect morning meeting spot for the team.
Definitely saving this as inspiration for when my I (hopefully!) have a larger company office space!
The newest decor update in my office is a big beautiful tray that Paloma of La Dolce Vita recently sent over from her Joy & Revelry shop for a White Box Challenge. I decided to put the tray on the surface of my Expedit shelving, which I have right behind my desk, along the back wall. It has been great for containing things that I like to have within arms reach but off my desk. Here's a look:
Things tend to look neater and more stylish when corralled within a tray, wouldn't you agree?

Today we have Myrna of For the Love of Black, participating in the ‘How I Organize’ series. She gives us a peek inside her home to share with us her fabulous desk area:
I've never really needed a desk area before, but since I've started my blog, I was finding I needed an area that was all mine, and of course it has to be beautiful so that it inspires me. So I find if I surround myself with things like my artwork, a scented candle, and beautifully organized desk supplies, I get the job done easier and it's much more pleasant.
A few things I've found to help keep me organized are for everything to have its place and that goes for around the rest of my home as well. On my desk I like to have paperclips ready to grab in a pretty little bowl, definitely a little notebook for those random thoughts going on in my head all the time, a great pen for notes, a pencil for sketching, my iPad, and a good light. I also must have a clock as I'm a stickler for being on time. And fresh flowers never hurt!!
Another thing I find is a must is to keep all wires from computers, lamps, and phone chargers out of sight if you can. Too much clutter looks disorganized. Ikea has some great cable management boxes and reels. Organizing as you go helps things from piling up and keeps your mind free from clutter too. I have a little black urn style container with a lid for receipts and little notes I don't want scattered all over my desk. For me, this is how I work best!!
This week my husband and I are moving into our new place! Today and tomorrow I'll be finishing up packing, Wednesday we'll start taking things over to the place and painting the living room and office, and Saturday we'll move the big stuff (furniture, etc). Hoping I don't let myself get too off balance by not remembering to drink enough water, eat right, breathe, etc., as I tend to do when it's a particularly hectic week. To get off on the right foot I drank alkaline water first this morning and I have my veggies washed for a green juice later today so that I have the energy to get everything done! I'll share pictures of the place later in the week and tweet updates -I hope you'll follow along!
Secretary desks are so great for adding some function to a little corner. They provide plenty of concealed storage and the hinged desktop surface can be folded up when not in use.

Like the idea of concealing office storage (and injecting some color into the space!) with a beautiful curtain:
